Natural hair care and a birthday

Hi everyone,
I thought I would show some pictures of my sister and I after the fact of using baking soda and apple cider vinegar only to wash our hair for about 2 months. We have been doing it since August and we love it! My hair never felt so healthy or curly! :)
We went to D.C. 2 weeks ago for Bethanys 18th birthday along with my parents and 2 of our best friends. Once again I do not have a camera and my friend has an amazing camera as she a professional photographer. So we got a lot of photos! Below all four of us together. Picture taken by my father.
As you can see my hair is a lot longer than it used to be and its a lot curlier! I believe that the apple cider vinegar has helped my hair as well as the baking soda along with rose mary has darkened my hair as well as Bethanys hair. She is using the same thing and her red hair has gotten darker because the rose mary is supposed to be used for brunettes, but we share our shampoo. So her auburn hair is even more auburn.

You can see both of our types of hair here. We got to see the national gardens as well as their tropical indoor rain forest in this picture. If any of you have any questions about hair care or our trip to D.C. do comment. This post will be more about my family than hair. :)
Happy birthday dear Beth and I am so thankful for such a wonderful, God fearing sister. I love you and may God continue to develope our relationship even closer to Him.

Oh and you can see the bag Bethany is carrying in the photos. I do not have better pictures of it, but I made it for her birthday. Wish I had close ups. :)
I thought this painting below was amazing! Our whole group was amazed at this painting! My family just finished reading through the book of Joshua together in our family Bible study and this painting put things into perspective. Its hard to imagine armies around Jericho, but you can in this painting.

Look how small the brush had to be to paint the soldiers. Quite amazing we thought.
The two harpists with the harpist painting.
I want to recreate this dress above someday! I love the puff sleeves and bow around the waist. No I will not recreate the scarey rug!!! :)
A painting of a 1860s lady! We were pleased as this gal reminded us of Bethanys civil war wool dress and red plaid apron.
And yes my parents came along too for the fun. I am so thankful for their love and kind words as they have mentored me these 19 years. They are a great example of trusting the Lord for our family and going against the current of our culture even when its hard. Love you Dad and Mom!

Hi Becca,

I find it interesting that it's the rosemary that's darkening your sister's hair! I wondered if it had been my imagination. If I were to use such ingredients, I don't think I'd want to use rosemary... what is recommended for blondes?
So your hair, while in the tropical rian forest, did not frizz and such? The picture of you too looks like it didn't!
And Beth's pocketbook is cute!! And I see she's wearing the pretty aqua necklace. Very chic for that Chic Birthday at the Capital!
I like your purple/blue top!

Hi Ivis!

I have not researched what herbs work well for blondes, but I keep getting asked that question from friends. So I must research that asap. :)

Yes our hair did frizz some after getting out of the indoor rain forest. :) Nothing can stop curls from doing that I guess.

Thank you about the pocket book and yes I encouraged Beth to wear her necklace and she could not say no with L and S saying she should too. Thanks yes the perwinkle top is a new addition to my wardrobe. A splurge of 8 dollars from Pennys. Gotta love that color!

I am replying to your email next.

Rebecca

I love the National Gallery of Art... probably one of my favorite places in the world... :)

(and your hair looks good too, but of course it always seems to)

Dear Rebecca,

You both look lovely! And yes, rosemary does darken brunettes hair naturally.

I am going to begin using this system and would like a bit more information.

I also have naturally curly hair and right now, I am just so tired of using products that are not doing anything for my hair.

I am going to search your previous posts and see if you have shared the info...if not, would you?

I am glad that you had such a wonderful time and Happy Birthday to your darling sister :-) Turning 18 yrs old was monumental in my life...boy that was a long time ago ;)

Blessings dear friend,

Maria

Everyone I am so encouraged by your comments. I ment to comment earlier, but am not getting to it until now. :)

Anyway I did find out that lemon juice enhances blonde hair.

Maria another thing I do with my curly hair that might sound crazy is that I don't use a hair brush or a comb to brush my hair. It gets way too frizzy that way. So I comb it with my fingers. A book I highly recommend for their hair care tips is the Curly girl handbook. I bet amazon.com has it. But thats where I got a lot of my curly hair care tips. But also check out my archives for the feelin feminine site tips. Thats where I got a lot of tips as well. If you have any more questions just comment here.

rebecca

You and your sister's hair looks beautiful and healthy! Wow! Baking soda/apple cider has really shown itself to work for you guys. I was discussing this with my own sister and I had forgotten that she actually did try apple cider before because she was having problems of her hair falling out. She didn't like it at all. I think it was the smell for her, so we couldn't say if it would have worked for her or not since she didn't do it for any length of time. I love your guy's hair, though! Thick and beautiful!

Beautiful images as well. I like the one of you with the flower. Very pretty. I also love the paintings you posted up. If only artists painted like this now a days! It is a real pity. That would be so wonderful if you made that white dress. It would look perfect on you! I always loved that painting by Whistler, I think is his name. :-)

Great blog and awesome results in the pictures! natural hair care is the best way to keep your hair healthy. I think I will start doing the same natural hair care you did. I will have to refer some friends to this website. Keep posting.

What gorgeous hair and girls! Have you ever had any trouble in the past growing out your hair? I used to have about 25-26in hair (pretty long for a rather short-torsoed person like me), and before it got any longer I'd want to chop it all off (and would); but it never seemed to get any longer, as I didn't chop it off immediately. Do you have any tips? I know it was really split, and I take better care of it now (shampooing less frequently, using conditioner as a scalp wash, doing hair masks, and trimming more often)
