Room decoration idea via Pinterest

So I saw these paper butterfly decorations on Pinterest and had to make my own. Ok, you can call me babyish you like but I adore anything with butterflies on it. I have collected butterfly necklaces since I was a kid as well as anything else with butterflies. So I had to make my own. Since my room is blue themed I made blue ones. You can see my inspiration below.

I used our sizzix machine to do the butterfly/dragonfly cut outs. If you do not know what a sizzix machine is then you are in for a treat. its pretty amazing! We love ours and use it for all kinds of things. You can cut out different shapes with paper or even fabric.

I quite like the way it looks and it adds some fun to my room. I will have to add a picture later with my new wall picture above my keyboard. I am so excited about this etsy store purchase!

I sewed with my sewing machine all the paper pieces together in case you were wondering. It was that easy.

Of scones, warm days, and terrariums

Yes I have taken the plunge and delved even deeper into the addicting world of the internet. I now have my own pinterest account and it has proved to be dangerous. :) I have been having to limit my time on the computer even more. One idea popped up the other day to make a terrarium and I had to try it. Here are the results.

Scone Recipe for "Classic Cream Scones"

2 cups all purpose flour           1 large egg
1/4 cup granulated sugar          1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
2 teaspoons baking powder       1/2 cup currants (optional)
1/3 cup unsalted butter, chilled    1 egg mixed with 1 teaspoon water for glaze (optional)
1/8 teaspoon salt
1/2 heavy whipping cream

Directions

Step 1-Preheat your oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit first. 

Step 2- In a large bowl, stir together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. 

Step 3- Cut the butter into 1/2 inch cubes and distribute them over the flour mixture. 

Step 4- With a pastry blender or two knives used scissors fashion, cut in the butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. 

Step 5- In a large bowl, stir together the cream, egg, and vanilla. 

Step 6- Add the cream mixture to the flour mixture and stir until combined. 

step 7- Stir in the currants if you are using them. 

step 8- With lightly floured hands, pat the dough into 1/2 inch thickness on a lightly floured cutting board or on the counter. 

Step 9- Using a floured 2 1/2 inch diameter biscuit cutter or glass cut our rounds from the dough and place them on the prepared baking sheet. 

Step 10- Gather the scraps together and repeat until all the dough has been used. 

Step 11- Lightly brush the scones with the egg mixture, if desired. 

Step 12- Bake for 13-15 minutes or until lightly browned. 

Step 13- Remove the baking sheet to a wire rack and cool for 5 minutes. Using a spatula transfer scones to the wire rack to cool. Serve them warm or cool completely and store in an airtight container. 

This recipe yields about 14 scones. 

I had a craving for something sweet and English the other day and I made plain scones with blackberries on top. We have berries all year round because we freeze them so they are accessible all the time. Yum!

Decopage Project

Hi readers! I was very improv and decided to go ahead and decopage my dresser top Sunday. I had been thinking about doing it for a few weeks. But I was not sure how to decopage and what I would decopage onto my dresser. At first I thought I would do old book pages or hymnal pages, but then I realized I had this old flower book and I used these colored pictures instead.

I bought the flower book at thrift store during the summer when I went with my sister for less an a dollar I think. It was a book about flowers and how they grow and such for kids from the 60s or 70s I think. I love how the dresser top turned out!

I just used elmers blue and water to make a thick paste and I watched some videos on youtube on how to do it. I could not find the video I watched on how to make the paste out of glue and water. Sorry!

So yes my dream of a decopaged dresser is complete! :) Now I want to decopage my book shelves too. Its addicting! :)

Closet Organization/Tour

Hi Ya'll!

I was inspired by other bloggers and Youtube channels to do a closet tour/video of organization tips and tricks. I loved watching Ashley of Bramblewood fashion's and Olivia of Fresh Modesty's tours and tips and tricks. Do check those out too! I hope this video is helpful in organizing your closets. I have found youtube videos so helpful in choosing how to finally get mine how I like it for fast morning getting ready, instead of sifting through junk piled every which way. :)

Updated Room Tour V-log

Hey everyone!

Room Re-do Part 1 The Closet

 Ok I admit it my closet has always been pretty darn scary! I have never had a really organized closet, I have always bought clothing I did not need because I could not find the item in my closet I wanted. But now I need not fear the black hole, its not a hole anymore! Now I can see everything and everything is in its place. :) I switched out my spring/summer clothing from my winter clothing this week and love love my revamped closet! You can see my before and after above.

 Now all my winter clothing is put away in storage bins under my bed and old clothing that I did not need is gone. Woohoo for purging. :) I found that color coding the clothing has helped a lot! All my shirts and sweaters are sorted by color which helps a ton! All my jackets are in one spot, all my skirts are together. All my dresses can actually hang without being too smushed together because I purged. I now fold a lot of shirts and put them in the black bins on either side of my closet.

I also now actually have a spot for my laundry basket as you can see on the bottom left. I even have a place for my summer hat I recently thrifted and my purses and summer scarves are all in my new dresser. More pictures of my new room coming soon. I hope this post was inspiring for spring cleaning. I love cleaning and can't believe still how organized my closet is now. I watched a lot of organizational closet videos on youtube to help me figure how to organize it. I totally recommend that for inspiration.

Tour of my room

 

I had posted some pictures a long time ago of my room when I thought it was approved. But now its much better. Its my haven when I am not in the kitchen, sewing/craft room, or living room with my family. I do most of my time in my closet with the Lord, creative thinking, and studying time in this room. So I thought it needed a much needed face lift a few months ago in january. I have been periodically adding my vintage and other antique and handmade things to have it be more homey and a place I want to be. :) Above I am so happy with my new book tower. I have seen many people do this, so I thought it would be a great way to display what I love to read and have a visual effect.

The whole room, I love the freshness of the green walls with the white down comforter, as well as the dark wood. The dresser I found on the side of the road for free! The desk is my mothers and she is letting me use it. My hope chest is on the wall at the end of the bed and is cherry wood as well. I love dark wood! Can you tell?!

My theme for my room is fresh vintage/ antique homey elegance. I wanted the room to reflect my love for all things old fashioned and vintage. Thus I have a lot of vintage floral fabrics, dried roses from my parents from graduation and my 18th birthday and doilies and hankies displayed.

I figured out the idea for the doilies and hankies tacked on my walls from just an idea in my head. Yes I am actually creative without another blogger coming up with it first! hehe Maybe someone has, but I have never seen it before. :)But the idea of the vintage lace as a earring holder was from blogger Olivia over at http://workingwitheagerhands.blogspot.com/
Her blog is lovely, so do have a glance as it. :)

Yes I am sharing my closet because its improved to me. But its not exactly picture perfect. But I do have it pretty organized. All my reenacting dresses which is 3 different eras are in the plastic bins and thats my carpet bag sitting there, it needs to find a home on the top shelf. :) My dresses that I wear for modern wear are all on the right side of the closet and then going from left to right skirts, sweaters/cardigans, and tops long and short sleeve. I am also blessed to have a hanging space on the far left for scarves and purses my dad put in a while ago. Now you can see it. :) I also put all my shoes on top of the bins with more purses. And the shelf below the clothing is more clothing that I fold as my dresser I do not store clothing in it! I store a lot of stuff for my hope chest that would not fit and exercise clothing and pj's. Not clothing that needs to be ready to access quickly each day.

I also made two new pillows for my bed. They are made from thrifted pillow forms that were 4 dollars a peice, but one of them is down. So that is a plus! :) The pink one with the pretty florettes on it was made from a skirt my sister was not using any more. I love it! The blue and brown floral one was from some sale fabric at joann's I had in my stash. So it was all pretty frugal fabric wise, free! The little embroidered, well its not embroidery I realize, but don't remember the name of that type of needle work was also thrifted for 4 dollars. Yes on the more expensive side, but I could not pass it up! It matches my room so well with the vintage needle work. :)

I was able to get all the doilies for free from a friend who owns a thrift store called Thrifty sisters! Its adorable and she is always so nice and she gave me these doilies on my walls for free! She thought since I love vintage/antique stuff I could use them for reenacting, but they were too pretty for camp life. :) So I am displaying an older ladies handy work on my walls. :) I believe she would be happy about that. All that work! :)

The vintage hankies I can not remember how much I paid, but they were probably 1 dollar to 50 cents each. I do have some I use on a regular basis, but I have so many of them I thought they would go well with the doilies on the walls. I also have some vintage scarves and more doilies above my window. I could not get a clear picture of them though. Maybe another time. Its adorable in person! Those scarves were also probably a dollar and the doilies were free. I love thrifted and free stuff! Have you been decorating your spaces latley with anything vintage or antique!? Its so much fun isn't it?!

Pinwheel throw pillows

Hey everyone!

So yesterday I had great intentions to start a pinwheel quilt, but then I decided I did not want to do that right now and wanted to use the squares for a smaller project. Yes I really don't plan ahead all too well. :) So I made these two pillow covers for my pillow forms. I wanted something new and bright and cheery for me room. Here is the result. I found this lovely blog yesterday as well called psiquilt and it has great inspiration! She is a great quilter and gave me the idea for the pin wheel squares. I am really loving quilting lately! :)

 The above one is made from the main fabric of an old skirt my sister had made me a while ago. It was too small, so I cut it up for reminding me of memories in this pillow. All the pin wheels are made of scraps from other projects as well to remind me of the past.

The above ones main fabric is made of an old dress I never wore from the thrift store. I love the boldness of the print against the bright pin wheel squares.

Writing and sewing high lights

Hello everyone!

Some delights of my day yesterday were some things I have not gotten to do as of late very often. I wrote a few letters to dear friends. I wrote to a friend far away and to my great aunt and some more thank you notes to friends. This little pretty thing has been handy! A wonderful, dear friend of mine made this letter writing case for me for my birthday a few months ago. I was delighted to receive it in the mail and its been used constantly ever since! Its perfect, a place for all the cards/stationary and your pen and paper! how wonderful! She did a great jog sewing this little loverly.
The button even has a violin and some music notes on it. She knows my taste! I love music!

These lovely note cards I have been using so much as of late for long letters to friends. They are called Bookish missives and they are from Small Meadow Press. She desings lovely cards and papers. Her website is in my favorites on my side bar on this blog. Do have a glance at her site!

All the lovely cards! And no they are not too pretty to use as the creator of these papers always says to me when I have chatted with her at our local homeschool convention. :)

All the letters ready to be sent out and my new journals from friends. What lovely friends I have to give me a supply of journals to quench my thirst for writing all the happenings in my life, my struggles, my triumphs through Christ, and my prayer requests and praises.

I have also been sewing away another set of cushions redone for my dear mother. I posted a while back here of a set I did for the dining room. Now I am doing 4 recovers for the kitchen chairs. They are too big for our chairs, so Bethany and I have been resizing them and recovering them. I am hopefully going to finish them by thursday. That is my goal anyway. Bethany and I are leaving friday to visit the Needs. I posted about our visit with them here last february.


The fabric below is the new fabric that will match our kitchen much better. My mother chose it and loves it! So Lord willing they will be black and white cushions by thursday.

Of baking, painting, music, and after graduation

Hello everyone!

Well I thought I would post more pictures of my life right now. We have been getting a lot of zucchini from our garden, hence I decided to leap into baking zuchini muffins. Lots of people at our church have new babies and they would be able to eat these muffins for breakfast. I also made chocolate chip cookies. The muffins are made with whole grain wheat flour, but the cookies are made with the good old white flour. I made about 12 dozen chocolate chip cookies along with my sister and moms help and 8 dozen muffins on my own. You may asK why on earth I made so many of them! Well I am bringing all the cooKies to church on sunday for all of the congregation to eat while we have lunch during the business meeting. We always have fellowship over a meal after church. So I am bring cooKies. I used Sue gregg's recipe from her Soups and Muffins cookbook for the muffins. I used the regular nestle tolehouse recipe for the cooKies. And yes I am not the perfect baKer so I put a picture of them in their normal state, deformed and all. ;)

Zuchini below from our garden, I forgot to get a picture before I cut into them, but I had three, one is already grated here. The one on the right was huge! I was able to get 2 dozen muffins from it!

Grating, yes yesterday I was all in grey, boring I know, you just can't see my favorite red striped skirt underneath my homemade apron. I made the apron from Mrs. Chancey's edwardian apron pattern last summer. I love it! I need to sew up another one, this one is faded, has holes in it, and I need some more fabric! Something brighter. :)

The recipe below, I did use whole wheat soft white flour that I ground in our whisper mill. This time last year I would have been scared out of my whits to even try the mill! Now I can use it on my own without being scared I will break the machine or poof flour everywhere!

And the finished product Zuchini muffins ready to eat! My mom and sister ate some and we shall see if dad will eat them tomorrow.

Oh and another thing from my life, the to-do list! I write one everyday! I love checking off what I have gotten accomplished.

I did some room redecorating as well. I love these hanging hooks, I even color coordinated the colors. Blue, gray, and purple, I thought went well together. The hat is my civil war reproduction hat that I wear at summer civil war events. I just wore it to Gettysburg last weekend. I put the trim on myself and lined the inside of the hat. A engenius lady hand wove this hat for me. My parents were wonderful and bought it for me last year for my birthday. I even wear it in the garden here at home. :)

My cat Felix enjoys keeping me company in my room when I am doing my devotions in the morning. Yes, I am reading Morning and Evening by Spurgeon, as well as C.S. Lewis's Screwtape letters. I read them off and on, I am not a great reader I confess. My stac
k may be tall, but I do not read them all that quickly. I only really read in the morning devotions and my Bible and before I go to bed the rest of my pile of reading.

I thought you all could guess what the above picture is of! I will give you a hint, my sister and I painted this last week before we went to the living history event in Gettysburg. It was something to put inside of our tent. Can you guess? More pictures of the finished product coming soon.

I thought you all might love seeing my high school diploma. Yes I am truly, really graduated. :)

My sister and I bought this at Colonial williamsburg when we went earlier in June and I have been immersing myself in colonial. We hope to do colonial living history this coming September Lord willing. You will find out at my sisters blog if we do do it or not. She is doing lots of research.

Lastly, here is another video as requested of myself singing another song, " Come Holy Spirit Dove Divine". An old hymn I love and it was challenge for me to sing, but the Lord helped me to memorize and learn it well. Enjoy and have a great friday!
