Music Studies Series Part 3

Music Studies Series Part 2

Hi everyone! I thought I would share another video set I filmed a few weeks back of me practicing and giving practicing tips. I hope its helpful and is informative as well as fun to watch. :) Some of my explaining might not be so great, but that's why I am doing these videos to get better at teaching about piano and music theory in general. Level 6 Piano Exam Piece On The Lake

Music Studies Series Part 1

Hello everyone! I decided to start sharing vlogs of my musical studies with you all. I hope you enjoy and learn something and are encouraged to pursue what God is calling you to through these videos. This is the first in a series of videos I have been filming over the past few weeks. I plan to do more videos as well explaining reasons I am taking the exams besides ones I have stated below. Also I feel this video touches only the surface of the lake of all my thoughts about music and this program. :) So more vlogs to come!

You can find my music certification program over here. TAP stands for The Achievement Program and this program has been sponsored and created by the Royal Conservatory in Canada and The Royal Conservatory at Carnegie Hall, which is in New York. So this program called TAP is the new american music program, it has been in Canada under a different name for over 150 years I believe. So I am so glad and grateful I was able to start the program in 2012 the first year of its manifestation. :) Its amazing how God worked it all out for me to get musical learning through this program, to be able to teach, play piano and sing, compose music, and share my music with others and worship Him through the whole program.

Latest piano composition

Hey friends!

I know its been a long wait, but finally I am uploading a video of me playing the piano for your enjoyment. I have had a terrible cough and been stuffed up real bad this week, so no singing for this video. But I promise to get a video of me playing and singing another song I have written soon. This song still does not have a title and this is just me playing around. I have written down the melody line which you can hear me play throughout the peice quite often, but still am playing around with what should be put into the rest of the song. There are mistakes and mess ups, but I hope you enjoy. :) I was inspired by David Nevue and I love his music! The composition is my own, I was inspired to sit down and write a piano arrangement today because of his beautiful piano arrangements. You can listen to him for free at Pandora .

Enjoy the video and don't feel like you need to watch the whole thing to get the idea. :) Its pretty long. haha

Song Writing Progress People!

hey friends!

I have been writing up a storm today, I had finished the melody line for my first song I wrote over a year about a month ago, but I have been finalizing it today. I am still changing around notes and lyrics to make it perfect and I wrote the piano part today as well. God is good! He has brought me to the stage where I can hear a melody in my head and figure it out on the piano. A year ago I could not do that, so His grace is so good to me! So if you all don't hear from me a lot its because I am playing around with my new toy I got for Christmas Finale Songwriter 2010. Its a great program if you are writing music and want to create lead sheets and MP3's of your music. Oh and by the way this photo was taken with my new Ipod touch I also got for Christmas. I am so excited that I can take photos with it as well as listen to music! So don't worry I will keep you updated on my songwriting progress. Maybe I will even do a video of me singing and playing a finished song in the future. I can't wait what the Lord holds in store for this new year! May God bless you all as you pursue Him!

A view into my day

Hi everyone!

I have been sorting through photos from the past 4 months June through September and realized I have some catching up to do. So from now on I will try and post a few times a week until I can catch up on all that you all have missed. :)

For today here are some photos of one of days this past week. I had seen another lovely blogger Miss Linda do this and I enjoyed seeing what her day was like. So here is a sort of diary of my life on a typical day.

I forgot to get more photos in the evening so you will have to be content with just commentary. :)

 

In the morning I love to get out of "photo album" which I have turned into a memory verse card holder. I put all of verses in there I want to memorize on index cards. I have to say that I have not been doing this lately, but I have been going over verses I have memorized in the past in the mornings. This method is handy to bring with you anywhere as well!

" So teach us to number our days, that we may get a heart of Wisdom."-Psalm 90

I have been reminded more and more by the Lord and friends and my family that we need to remember that this life is but a vapor and so short. The Lord is at hand and He is coming again soon. Its reminded me as well to get a heart of wisdom, but not earthly wisdom that comes from myself or others, but the wisdom of the Lord.

Then I glanced over at my dresser and realized even more that I am an adult now and really have grown in the past year. I have the responsibility of getting things from the store for my mom by driving. I also have a cell phone of my own now, it updated this of the weather before I started my Bible study. Its a great feature as I am always wondering about the weather.

The red journal underneath my phone is my prayer/Bible study journal which I use each morning to write down verses I am memorizing or really want to ponder throughout the day. I have always had a journal ever since I was 13 I guess and now I love writing in them. I hope someday my children and their children will be able to glean some wisdom from the Lord from my scribbling. :)

Acts 18:9-10 " Do not be afraid but go on speaking and do not be silent, for I am with you, and no one will attack you to harm you, for I have many in this city who are my people." 

Then I studied chapter 18 in Acts and chapter 19, I have been just really loving reading Acts. Its so encouraging and challenging!
In chapter 18, Paul was afraid to share the Gospel for fear he would be abused and persecuted again, but God said to him in a vision do not fear! How much more then should we not fear as we are not getting beaten and put in prision in the US as Paul was in Rome and other provinces. The Lord has shown me more and more that I need to share the Gospel because the days are coming when the Lord will come again. We should not hide and not tell of the hope that is in us. I must say many a time I do not share the Gospel because I am afraid, but God says do not be afraid, and we have many Christians in our cities in the US, probably more than Paul had, but he still preached the Gospel. How much more should we? These were my thoughts all day yesterday.  I felt as though I really have not been doing what I should do as a christian, I have felt as though I have not verbally shared the Good News enough.

Then I also read from Psalms 92:4-5 " For You Oh Lord have made me glad by your works; at the works of your hands I sing for joy. How great are you works Oh Lord! Your thoughts are so deep."


I read this and remembered that yes I should be joyful always because My God's works are so so great! His thoughts are so deep, too deep for me even to understand, but He wants me! His steadfast love never ever wavers for me His child. He loves me with a love no one else can ever love me with! That is a promised hope, its not a hope that is unsure, its sure!! My God loves me with a steadfast love. He will never forsake His bride!

Then I went on a run, I tend to pray while I run now. I used to listen to my ipod, but it has basically died. So now I use the time to pray and remember my God who is always with me. I feel more at peace this way and remember that He will protect me while I run through the neighborhood. Yes I do wear pants when I run, I have found its easier and warmer in the winter months. I could wear a skirt, but it gets in my way, so pants it is. I wear loose sweat pants, not so pretty, but warm and great for exercise. I have been convicted by the Lord in the past few years that its definitely not a sin to wear pants and for some things its necessary.

When I came in from my run I was cold, but at the same time hot, I hate that. But it was worth it to get a good 30 minutes of exercise. I love earl grey tea, ever since I went to England in 2009 with my sister and Jennie Chancey on the England tour I have fallen in love with the taste of tea. I have it most every day in the fall and winter months. Earl grey is my favorite type!

For my early meal I wanted some scrambled eggs made in my cast iron skillet, but I had neglected to clean it the previous day. So I thought I would do a little tutorial on how to clean your cast iron in this post. Yes this post will be a little long. :)

I clean my cast iron with sea salt, I was actually reading a magazine called Reminisce and it has stories and things that lots of elderly people send in about how they lived in the 30s-70s when they were children and young people. One lady did an article about cast iron and I tried what she said to do, which is use no soap or water to clean your cast iron! I had never heard of this, I was always using water, but no soap with a scrubber to clean it. But she said that salt has properties that are great for cleaning, so its great for clean cast iron.

So what I do is I get a dry paper towel, pour some sea salt in the dirty pan and scrub. If you have a lot of stuff that is stuck on use some sort of scrubber to get it off, but no water or soap, just the sea salt.

And here you have it! I beautiful and clean cast iron pan. :) Not using water or soap helps it to stay smooth and that way you have an anti stick coating on your pans. Its lovely isn't it! :) Cast iron just is so fun to me! I love using it and taking care of it. :)

Now if you are not going to use your cast iron pan after you clean it up, then re-season it, this means re-oiling it. I use coconut oil to oil my pans, but you can also use canola oil or vegetable oil. But coconut oil is the best I believe health wise. We only buy extra virgin, here a photos below. :)

We get it in a huge bucket way bigger than the one in the photo. We use this little bucket for storing small amounts in the house. We store all of our bulk foods in our garage. I only use about half a teaspoon full of the coconut oil and then you melt it in the pan. Its a solid at room temps, but is a liquid at higher temps.

Here is photo of what the coconut oil does when it melts, it was hard to get a photo for some reason. But its basically a clear liquid. Then you can whatever you want, I did eggs.
My tea and my bread and eggs, yummy! Then I practiced piano for church on sunday, I am one of the pianists for the services at our church. I did not get photos of that, but I did get photos of my music for my voice practicing and from my lesson. I had to drive to my lesson as well, so I listened to my favorite group Selah in the car.

Above, on of the songs I am studying for my college vocal lessons. Its so beautiful! This song can be found in the Celtic Woman songbook. Its my favorite song I am learning right now.
Here are some photos from my lesson, the exercises I must do daily to become a better singer. They are difficult, but fun! :)

 These are from the Little Book Cocone exercise book. I also do the Big Book Cocone exercises as well. I have also been using Italian Arias as well to sing the song Alma Del Core, which is my most difficult exercise right now I believe! There are some high notes in it. :)

This one is my favorite I believe because its easier than number 8! Its funny that 8 is harder than number 9 for me. :)

I always write out a to-do list for each day or else I am lost not remembering what I need to do.

 After I do some more things on my to-do list I read this lovely book Womanly Dominion. Its so good!!! I can't put it down, its so good. I read about Abigail and how she was a woman who did not just sit and knit she was intentional for the Lord. She did not say oh the Lord will do that, she got up and moved in order for the Lord to do what He wanted to do in her life. We as women should not just be sitting around we need to be active in our faith pursuing God's will for our lives!

I also uploaded this wonderful program to my parents computer, because the family computer is right next to the piano. So I can just scoot on over to the computer and type of the music after I compose it. I believe this will be better than having to go up to my room upstairs when I have a tune that needs to be written up. So I uploaded that before I went to my lesson and after I did some music practicing and reading. I also heaped up more compost outside and remembered the gardens need tending today. Then I helped with some more chores in the house before leaving for my vocal lesson.

 My sister made us all chocolate milkshakes after dinner. It was so yummy!

In the evening Dad taught us from the WORD from Ecclesiastes and I learned a lot. I wore those earrings as well.

I changed into my princess night gown I call it since it has elaborate embroidery all over it and its red.

I did some knitting on my nubia which is a type of scarf they wore in the civil war in the fall/winter months. We have a reenactment in a week or so and I want to get it finished in time. I do that while we watched The Polar Bear king, a great movie from my childhood. It was instant on netflix which is always a plus not having to wait for it to come in the mail. My sister did some sewing a civil war dress she is sewing for a customer and my mom watched as well. Then we all went to bed. So that was my day! Sorry this is so long, but I thought it would be fun to give you glimpse into my day. :)

My Birthday and thoughts

Hello everyone!

Today is my 19th birthday and I thought I would share with you all my thoughts on this new year that is coming!

I still can't believe where I am and where the Lord has put me! I never thought that I would be 19 years old and I never thought that I would have learned about the Lord and been used by the Lord as much as He has used me and I have learned about our amazing God! In such a short time as my life has been as many tell me I have seen the Lord work miracles. He saved me two years ago and it was a life changing experience. He asked me to totally change my life style and how I viewed things because I had become His child!

I have seen Him save many of my friends and other families by His grace and I have seen Him save my family over the years. Never have I been so joyful than I had ever been after I was saved by Jesus Christ!

I am so thankful for this new year of life and I am so thankful to know as I was reminded in church and by friends on Resurrection Sunday that Eternity starts now! Once we are saved we are living life for eternity! We need to be living our daily lives with eternal purpose, which is shown to us by the Lord. I have not figured out exactly what He wants me to be doing next year, but I have a calling as a daughter and as a sister and as a friend! I know that the Lord wants me to futher His kingdom by my example, although I fail at this so many times each day! :)

So ladies please don't get discouraged and remember that the Lord will give you joy and purpose by His Word and His people being an example to you. The Lord is amazing!

I also wanted to share with you all a new feature that I have added to my blog. I thought I would add on the side bar each week what I am studying for music. I intended for my blog to be mostly about music, but it has turned into a blog about just about everything that goes on in myself and my families lives. :) But there you can see what I am doing with my music studies for His glory. As the name of my blog says singing in His name! I love doing that and playing the piano for Him.

I will leave you with a verse that encouraged me today.

2 Corinthians 4:5-6 " For what we proclaim is not ourselves but Jesus Christ as Lord with ourselves as servants for Christs sake. For God who said," Let the light shine out of the darkness," has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ!"

I pray that we all will shine for Christ and not ourselves, having eternal purpose in all we do!

I pray you all have a marvelous day celebrating His resurrection and celebrating that the Lord is our God!

Lots going on..... in my life

Hey everyone!

You all may have notice my lack of posts lately!

But I realized that this is my 70th blog post!! Yeah!!! I love blogging and hearing from you all! I love comments and feed back! I also have reached 45 followers!!! This has gotten me excited today. :)

Right now in my life as a full time homeschool senior, daughter of my earthly parents, daughter of the King, musician, baker and chef, friend to many, pursual of my Higher calling from the Lord, and many other personal changes going on in my life, I have been so busy and obsorbed totally in life in the moment. I have been thinking about the future and planning and trying to figure out what I am to be doing by next year. As I don't want to get the normal college education at any university, its been really a tough road, not knowing what I will be doing for my education next year. But I know its in the Lord's hands, even when I cry out to Him and there is no answer now I know He will answer, just not now. In His timing!
My list is ever growing with the things I want to do and need to do for school, spiritually, my family and friends and goals I want to do. I always write out a list the night before each day. Its been a habit of mine. I also finally found the perfect pencil cup for 25cents!!! I love it, it has a cute floral motif on it.

I have ideas for what I will be sewing, that I will keep baking and cooking, and hopefully be driving and teaching children the art of the piano by then. But I do not know what "college education" I will be pursuing. I thought the Lord was leading me to get a music major in voice, or a music major in teaching piano. But now I really feel uneasy about that and feel the Lord is leading me in a different direction from what I have always thought I would do in college.

So right now I am waiting and I can not say that I am waiting as patiently as I should be. I am patient, but I think I am just scared, not knowing what I will be doing next year. But the Lord has shown me that He is a comforter, yesterday I had a break down about worrying about my future and He sent these verses my way. I have been enduring much affliction lately and in the past 2 years, ever since I became a christian I saw much affliction from people who were "christians" and that really suprised me and it hurt. I still am appaled and some of the behavior I have witnessed in the Church of Jesus Christ! So these verses were very timely " Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God." - 2 Corinthians 1:3-4

I don't fit in with many of my age group of this generation and I may have different convictions about living a godly life compared to some of this century, but I know that I am comforted by my family through Christ, they have been through affliction and are encouraging and I am grateful for that. These verses were so timely when I needed comfort, not being sure what will be happening in the future and when I had suffered from much anxiety and remembering things that have happened that were hard and are still hard.

My parents want me to have some type of degree to further my education as well as if I need to get job in the future. But the main reason they want me to do college at a univerisity of some sort is to learn more in my music studies. I too want to learn lot in music and I think there is nothing wrong with learning. I am fine with that, but as I believe and so do my parents I should not have a left wing and liberal and non-Biblical education for college. College-plus is looking like a good option along with taking classes at the local community college called Nova. But I really want to do something that is not just studying, but it ministering to people instead of having my nose in my music studies all the time. I do think I would still be able to evangalize to people through college, but I much rather focus my whole higher education program on God and His kingdom than my own music or teaching career. We shall see though! If you think of me please pray for guidance from the Lord and that He would give me a clear vision of what He wants me to do and not what I or my parents want me to do.

Oh and speaking of a music major that I may become, here is my new piano!!!!!!! It is not mine, but my father bought it for my mother and she shares it with me. I am so excited!!!!!!! I love it! I have been practicing most every day piano and voice! Its a kawai and it is 5 feet and 10 inches long. I absolutly love it! I still can't believe we own a grand piano. We have another Kawai which I have shown pictures of on here before, but it is an upright, still wonderful, but this is even better! Now when I start Lord willing teaching piano students next fall they can do duets on both pianos at the same time. Right now my mom is doing that with her students for their spring recital. I am doing a duet with one of her younger students that is near my level, but I am doing music at her level, not mine with her. She is a great student and I can't wait to learn the duet parts to play with her for the recital.

It was so amazing when they tipped it on its side to bring it up the stairs to our living room!!! EEEEE! I love seeing the inside and I just had to snap a picture.

This picture is not that great I realize, but its wonderful in person. If you are in VA come and visit!

On another note, here is my outfit for today. As I said ealier I have been doing some spring cleaning and I have gotten all my bohemian and spring-like out of their storage bin in my closet. I was so happy to wear my green skirt, which I bought in Italy 2 summers ago with my church group and family on a mission trip to Rome and learning about Church history.

The skirt I am not sure how much it was, I saw it at a street vendor and I said I liked it and my dad bought it for me! :) The belt also came with the skirt. The three quarter sleeve jean shirt was I think $3.00 at the thrift store last fall and I love it! I wear it for days that are more casual and I will be doing cooking and cleaning like today, because it wears well and will not get ruined easily like some of my favorite spring blouses. The cross necklace I wear everyday and it was bought for me by my father when we visited the Vatican in Italy the same trip as when we bought the skirt and yes those are the only two things he bought me. Two very special things! The purple t-shirt is from target and was $12.00 that same summer before we went to Rome. I wear it so much! Purple is one of my favorite colors besides blue and green and red!

So I have been very preoccupied with prayer for the future, as well as home-keeping. Helping my mother and sister with meals, making food, spring cleaning, and hospitality as well. I have also had a lot of school work and lots of sewing has been going on for civil reenacting, such as a quilt, as well as planning future projects and I am planning to make a modern night gown and 2 shirt dresses for spring in the coming weeks. I am also almost finished with a granny square blanket for my hope chest. Its made out of all the scraps of yarn from all the dish cloths I made for christmas gifts back in december.

Here the sqaures are above! All of the yarns were from previous projects when I had left over yarn and they are crocheted. I plan to start putting them together later tonight, I will be crocheting 5 more to make it the size I would like for a fun universal children's quilt. I will probably use it now on my own bed for summer, since it is warmer and I won't need a flannel/fleece blanket, but something lighter. This afghan will also be mostly 100% cotten yarns, some soft acrylic is in there, but not a lot.

I also have been doing spring cleaning in my room, as I am getting ready for moving my old bed back into my room and I also switched my spring cloths back into my closet. ! God bless and I am off to finish putting in some more pita bread to bake next. I used this recipe and I love it! It turns out delicious as well as lovely in appearance.

Antique books and sheet music finds

Hello everyone!
I thought I would share with you some lovely finds that I found at an antique store with some friends this past weekend! I was so shocked, excited, and astounded at what I had been blessed to find! In this post I will show you the antique music books and sheet music I was so happy to aquire!

This first book is not dated for its age, but by far its the oldest of my bunch of 10 different finds. It has notes in it by the previous owner of being played through as early as 1907!!!!!!! I was appauled at how old it was.

It is a series of beautiful, yet technical, and challenging piano exercises. EEEEPPPP!!!! It just makes me smile and want to shreak for joy! I love music so much and I could play the piano and sing all day if I was allowed to!!!! So these treasures really made by weekend so special and even more exciting besides getting to see new and old friends.

Here is one note where the owner dated it September 7/07 and I assumed that ment 1907 and not 2007. I hope so!!

Another place where it says May 07/07! I am so excited about this one because of the marks and writing in this lovely little book.

This book of choral music of Psalm 112 intrigued me because I am just fascinated with Handels works! I have wanted to sing the Messiah for a few years now at a local church, but it always conflicted with other activities. I am determined to do it next year! And I am want to maybe learn some of the soprano or alto solos in here for fun as well as look at the complex parts for the choir.

The owner even signed her name. Her name was Diana! How lovely I thought.

Look at the piano part compared to the voices!!!! Oh my goodness! the pianist would have had their work cut out for them!

This peice intrigued me by the cover as well as the peice that awaits me on the inside. It looks lovely to play on the piano forte.

It was only 50 cents! I still can't get over how the prices were so different way back when!

Ok when I saw this peice of sheet music in the wooden crate at the antique store I have to admit I almost bought it just because the cover was so stunning!!!!! But then I looked inside and it looks beautiful to play as well. I never knew a cover could be so amazing for a piano peice. :)

The person actually dated when they played it! September 21, 1928! I am just loving all the hand written notes, dates, and check marks by peices others have played way back when.

The inside is beautiful too.

This peice is a mazurka from a ballet and I just love that it says on the front cover for the piano forte, not for the piano. :)

This peice is from 1929 and it looks like lots of fun to play. :)

My mother said she used to love to sing this song! I want to learn it soon. :)

It even says the dates that the person who used to own this music performed the peice. The first date reads the 27th of february 1927, the 8th of january 1933, and the 18th of november 1934! This is at the top of the left hand corner of the cover of the sheet music. I thought that was so neat!

Only 75 cents for it when it was new!!

This book is I think in the worst condition out of the 10 books and peices of sheet music I purchased on saturday. It smells more than the others! :) But it is wonderful! I love the cover art and the music is piano/organ arrangements of famous songs from various operas! I was excited of course!

Only 50 cents!!! Can you believe it!

even the table of contents is beautiful! I just love it!

This Opera entitled "Il Trovatore" looked so intruging and I had to have it. I plan to learn some of the songs from this book as well and it even has the whole opera with the music for voice and piano, as well as all the lines of the whole opera along side the music! wonderful I thought! I love operas! I have never seen one, but would love to see one someday or even be in one! hehe

The characters in the play listed here.

As you can see it has the songs they sing between their lines. It is all in italian, but they also have english translation beneath the itialian words. wonderful and brilliant I thought! Now I need friends who could also sing and they could do the whole opera with me! that would be so much fun to do together. Maybe in my second life! ;)

This book was such a great find!!! It has wonderful vocal exercise and when I finish my Vacai books and my other vocal exercises books using vowels I will start this one. I love the cover, but the music inside is also great!

A little peak of the inside, the exercises are all numbered and this page shows some harder exercises.

The inside of the book also said this as well as that it was only $1.00 when it was originally sold!! Its old! But it does not have a date.

This book from Schirmer's music library caught my mother and I by suprise. We have so many of Schirmer's music libraries books and we had not heard of this one. They are as old as the 1930's, but we have new and old of other piano and vocal exercise and music books. This one is vocal exercises as well.

Look at the last exercise of the book!!!!!!! Its crazy! But I want to be able to do that by the next year or two! I love singing and challenges are so much fun! I am doing some italian right now that is quite challenging from my italian book of italian classics fo and I love it! its so dramatic, yet technical.

Well I hope you all enjoyed seeing these finds. I just still can't get over them and that I was blessed to find them. I guess I just have not been to an antique store or thrift store that had music in such a long time and I bought quite a bit. :) The guy that sold them to me had lots more and I looked through only about half of it. I may have to go back next time I visit my friends down in Fredricksburg.
