Antique books and sheet music finds

Hello everyone!
I thought I would share with you some lovely finds that I found at an antique store with some friends this past weekend! I was so shocked, excited, and astounded at what I had been blessed to find! In this post I will show you the antique music books and sheet music I was so happy to aquire!

This first book is not dated for its age, but by far its the oldest of my bunch of 10 different finds. It has notes in it by the previous owner of being played through as early as 1907!!!!!!! I was appauled at how old it was.

It is a series of beautiful, yet technical, and challenging piano exercises. EEEEPPPP!!!! It just makes me smile and want to shreak for joy! I love music so much and I could play the piano and sing all day if I was allowed to!!!! So these treasures really made by weekend so special and even more exciting besides getting to see new and old friends.

Here is one note where the owner dated it September 7/07 and I assumed that ment 1907 and not 2007. I hope so!!

Another place where it says May 07/07! I am so excited about this one because of the marks and writing in this lovely little book.

This book of choral music of Psalm 112 intrigued me because I am just fascinated with Handels works! I have wanted to sing the Messiah for a few years now at a local church, but it always conflicted with other activities. I am determined to do it next year! And I am want to maybe learn some of the soprano or alto solos in here for fun as well as look at the complex parts for the choir.

The owner even signed her name. Her name was Diana! How lovely I thought.

Look at the piano part compared to the voices!!!! Oh my goodness! the pianist would have had their work cut out for them!

This peice intrigued me by the cover as well as the peice that awaits me on the inside. It looks lovely to play on the piano forte.

It was only 50 cents! I still can't get over how the prices were so different way back when!

Ok when I saw this peice of sheet music in the wooden crate at the antique store I have to admit I almost bought it just because the cover was so stunning!!!!! But then I looked inside and it looks beautiful to play as well. I never knew a cover could be so amazing for a piano peice. :)

The person actually dated when they played it! September 21, 1928! I am just loving all the hand written notes, dates, and check marks by peices others have played way back when.

The inside is beautiful too.

This peice is a mazurka from a ballet and I just love that it says on the front cover for the piano forte, not for the piano. :)

This peice is from 1929 and it looks like lots of fun to play. :)

My mother said she used to love to sing this song! I want to learn it soon. :)

It even says the dates that the person who used to own this music performed the peice. The first date reads the 27th of february 1927, the 8th of january 1933, and the 18th of november 1934! This is at the top of the left hand corner of the cover of the sheet music. I thought that was so neat!

Only 75 cents for it when it was new!!

A little peak at the music.

This book is I think in the worst condition out of the 10 books and peices of sheet music I purchased on saturday. It smells more than the others! :) But it is wonderful! I love the cover art and the music is piano/organ arrangements of famous songs from various operas! I was excited of course!

Only 50 cents!!! Can you believe it!

even the table of contents is beautiful! I just love it!

This Opera entitled "Il Trovatore" looked so intruging and I had to have it. I plan to learn some of the songs from this book as well and it even has the whole opera with the music for voice and piano, as well as all the lines of the whole opera along side the music! wonderful I thought! I love operas! I have never seen one, but would love to see one someday or even be in one! hehe

The characters in the play listed here.

As you can see it has the songs they sing between their lines. It is all in italian, but they also have english translation beneath the itialian words. wonderful and brilliant I thought! Now I need friends who could also sing and they could do the whole opera with me! that would be so much fun to do together. Maybe in my second life! ;)

This book was such a great find!!! It has wonderful vocal exercise and when I finish my Vacai books and my other vocal exercises books using vowels I will start this one. I love the cover, but the music inside is also great!

A little peak of the inside, the exercises are all numbered and this page shows some harder exercises.

The inside of the book also said this as well as that it was only $1.00 when it was originally sold!! Its old! But it does not have a date.

This book from Schirmer's music library caught my mother and I by suprise. We have so many of Schirmer's music libraries books and we had not heard of this one. They are as old as the 1930's, but we have new and old of other piano and vocal exercise and music books. This one is vocal exercises as well.

Look at the last exercise of the book!!!!!!! Its crazy! But I want to be able to do that by the next year or two! I love singing and challenges are so much fun! I am doing some italian right now that is quite challenging from my italian book of italian classics fo and I love it! its so dramatic, yet technical.

Well I hope you all enjoyed seeing these finds. I just still can't get over them and that I was blessed to find them. I guess I just have not been to an antique store or thrift store that had music in such a long time and I bought quite a bit. :) The guy that sold them to me had lots more and I looked through only about half of it. I may have to go back next time I visit my friends down in Fredricksburg.

God bless and have a blessed week worshipping Him!

Thrifty finds

Dear readers,

I thought I would share with you all my finds from this past saturday going to some thrift stores, boutiques, and antique stores for the next few days. I have a lot of things I have found, so I will be posting a few each day.

This post is about three wardrobe staples I found at two used clothing boutiques in downtown Fredricksburg, Va, with my sister, and mother, and two dear friends.
This first peice is a Ann Taylor Loft blouse that is quite unique and is just about brand new!! My friend pulled it off the rack and yes Becca you must try this! its so cute! So I did and it fit perfectly, like it was made for me. :) It was only $8.00 for this little dear. That is a lot more than I normally pay for a blouse, but this one was practically new and I loved it. It has a self fabric waste band and I just love the black dots! its the perfect blouse for spring.
I loved the little button on each sleeve!

This next blouse as described by both of my dear friends, sister, and mother, is definately me because its dramatic! Life is a stage as my sister tells me. But its usually better to be the audience.

She ended up being marked down at only a $6.00 steal! I was suprised. I think this was a God send as my other white blouses are so old and not as white as they used to be.

I wore this beauty yesterday, as my choir was singing at a local church for the first time in this new spring season. I needed a new white blouse for it desperately! As my old two had holes in them and were dreadfully stained and pilling badly. So this one did the trick, it was loved by a few other gals in my alto section. :) I love the sleeves! At first I thought it was too much like a costume, but now I love it and think its a great twist on a plain white blouse. Just enough to be different, but still uniform with the rest of the choir.

This next item was a suprise! Ok I will admit this is now my 5th denim skirt in my wardrobe. * smiles and then shrugs* Yes I love jean skirts and I don't need this new one, but it was so pretty and only $8.00. I am wearing it today and I wore it yesterday after church as well. Its just so pretty. Its not your typical straight jean skirt. Its fun and fluffy at the bottom. :)

I love the ruffly bottom and its just so fun to wear. It makes me feel like a lady and it is not a frumpy jean skirt.

Well until next time, I will be sharing with you some sheet music and music books that date all the way back I believe until 1907!!! I was so excited to get a hold of these from an antique store, as well as some books that are not that old, but used and great finds as well. Coming probably tomorrow or wednesday. Until then God bless and have a great week worshipping Him!

Modified Molly Inspired Hair style

Hello everyone!
Yesterday I washed my hair and styled it again in a style I think represents Molly's hairstyle much better than my messier style. I was pleased. What do you all think? Better or not like it really at all?
I thought putting my curls higher on my head made the difference, conpared to yesterday's lower hair style.

I just wish I had someone to take pictures for me. I hate asking my sister to do it as she is very busy. Its hard for me to get pictures with the self timer of myself closer up. I do use the self timer for full length shots like yesterdays outfit.

I am have been so suprised at all the interest in my little blog the past few weeks! I have over 40 followers now and I can't believe it! hehe

I love hearing your comments and it makes me smile to hear from like minded ladies on here.
God bless and have a wonderful wednesday!

My outfit for today

Hey everyone!

I thought I would share with you all what my outfit is for today as well as my inspired hair style from Molly's hairstyle in the movie Wives and Daughters. I love Molly's hairstyle because it is done with the same type of hair I have. Having natural curls I don't get a lot of inspiration from movies usually because most actresses don't have natural curls. So I love her style and I have done this type of style for about a year now as a style I can do when I have not washed my hair that day. I can just pin the curls on top of my head. :)
Ok mine is not as neat as when I wash my hair and then put it up. The curls work better with this style when the hair has been washed that day. I will be posting pictures later this week of this done in a less messy style. But I am not a hollywood actress and this was inspired by Molly's hair style. :)

Also today and yesterday I wore my favorite and one and only blue shirt that I own!!! I do own some ice blue shirts, but this is my one and only true blue shirt I own. I love the sequins, which remind me of Lord of the Rings elvish style clothing for some reason. I feel like a princess in this top from another era. The shirt is about 6 years old! Yes I bought this shirt when I was 12 or 13! I am 18 years now respectfully, but I still love this shirt, it will be in my wardrobe until it wears out. :)
The grey long sleeve layering shirt was free from a friend. :)

I also wore one of my favorite skirts. I made this skirt this past september before my sister and I headed out to England with Jennie Chancey on her England tour of London and Bath. It was a great versatile skirt for the trip. I also bought the polyester grey striped fabric on sale at Joann and love it. A great find in the red tag section. I used one of my favorite patterns from Folkwear. Its called the 1910 walking skirt pattern. It is on there website here . My sister, mother, and I adore this pattern! It works so well with modern tops, blouses, and sweaters. I have posted before about another skirt I made out of the same pattern, except using a charcoal grey hairing bown flannel fabric also from Joann on sale.
God bless and I will be posting pictures of this hair style again later this week.
Oh and just a side! I am dreaming about making this riding skirt soon! I want the pattern for my birthday, which is in april. I also would love to receive a pair of regency shoes as well. My sister and I will be doing a 1812 reenactment in June Lord willing. So I would love to have proper shoes to go with my outfit. Here is the website, it also has some colonail shoes my sister and I both are planning to purchase for a fall reenactment where we will be doing revoluntionary war. I am so excited abaout these new era's to reenact!!

A Cheery Apron

Hey everyone!

Last month in february, I made this apron out of some fabric I loved, but did not know what to do with. So here is the finished project and oh my march is here! This new apron is something I needed and I use a lot around here at my house. I added this picture today as I was working around the house in my new apron. You can see the detail of the 3 pockets better. I love the deep pockets for my pen, notebook of Bible verses, and other things. I also had just enough of this fabric to squeeze this apron out of it and I had just enough of the blue bias tape to finish the apron. It was a great stash busting project!

Detail of the floral! The yellow and blue is so cheery and I love wearing this apron for cooking, cleaning, and just because its pretty. I used a 1950's pattern that my sister bought online. I just loved this fabric and I was on a sewing craze until the end of this month I have not been sewing as much. I have a pile of projects to get back to work on later this week. A skirt in the works, a skirt that needs mending, chair cushions to start making, and new curtains for my room to all sew. So many projects and so little time! I have been working on a granny square blanket yesterday and today as well while memorizing Bible verses in spanish. I love making simple crochet project like a blanket. Its so relaxing! Hope everyone has a great day, I ended up not being able to get the Molly hairstyle tutorial done because of some unexpected events and circumstances in my life right now. But I plan to do it sometime in the future. I will be posting pictures of the style later this week. But probably not a tutorial anytime soon.

Cheers!

Rebecca
