Today I was a country french girl.

Sorry for the way too long hiatus friends! I am back and I will be posting more regularly now that Christmas is over. Today my sister managed to snap some photos of my outfit so we decided I looked french. The beret was a spur of the moment idea because I could not find my pink hat that I wanted to wear. I am glad it ended up going so well with the outfit.

 Beret- thrifted
peacoat-thrifted
scarf- geekiana etsy shop
earrings- gift
skirt- 1950s circle skirt made by me
boots- Shoe Ocean amazon store
gloves- J C Penny
cardigan- thrifted
top-target

It has been cold enough to snow here on the East coast and we are supposed to get more tonight. My sister and I walked to the grocery to stalk up on onions as we eat those a lot. We are making french onion soup for dinner tonight.

My earrings are something I have had forever, but hardly ever wear. Today I decided I better wear them again.

To think I almost gave away this skirt because I had no idea how to wear it. Now I know it gives a french country look when paired with a beret and boots. LOVE!

Look for me every few days with OOTD and videos. I plan to do a makeup haul as well as my christmas gifts in a haul too.

In Christ,
Rebecca

Hollywood vintage pattern 407 cut out!

Hello everyone!

I have sucessfully finished a 40's slip from the pattern I talked about in my previous post and I have cut out a dress from this vintage hollywood pattern 407 tonight. I can't wait to get it sewn up in time for a christmas dance, a christmas party, and christmas. I am sewing it up in a navy blue with a silver stripe, which I cut out on the bias to make chevrons with the gored panels in the skirt. I can't wait to get it done!

God bless!

1940s Wardrobe Shoes, Hat, and patterns

Hey everyone!

I thought you all would enjoy another vlog. I showed my thrifted vintage style shoes, a hat I bought on cyber monday from amazon, and the patterns I am using to sew up two new dresses for the reenactment I am attending in January.

God bless!

1940s wardrobe planning

So I am getting ready to go to my first World War 2 reenactment in January and I have been planning my winter wardrobe for it. I will be there 5 whole days for this immersion event so I need two dresses,   2 skirts, 2 blouses, a few cardigans, and a coat and shoes. Here is the website for the battle of the bulge if you are interested.

Here are my two dream dresses for the evening dinner/swing dance Saturday night.
You can see both of these patterns on pinterest on my board if you re interested. My user name is SingingDaily91.

I love the dress above because of the sweet heart neckline and the twisted side detail. I wish I could drape patterns to make the dress on the left above.
The dress pattern below is also pretty similar, but not exactly.

The dress below is another I found via pinterest and I am in love! If only I could make this and have a place to wear it! I just have to find the pattern somewhere.

Now the practical things I am actually sewing. I am cutting out my bullet bra and red dress today.
I definitely need a warm robe for those chilly evening in the barracks after the days events.

I have been wanting to sew up the below pattern for some time and I am glad I have this pattern in my stash. I will sew it up in a navy polyester with a silver pin stripe.

I plan to start on my under garments today. I might also cut out a slip. I will post pictures of the pattern later.

You can buy this pattern via etsy.

I hope this post was fun to read and I will definitely post updates when I have items to show and share.

God bless!

Of scones, warm days, and terrariums

Yes I have taken the plunge and delved even deeper into the addicting world of the internet. I now have my own pinterest account and it has proved to be dangerous. :) I have been having to limit my time on the computer even more. One idea popped up the other day to make a terrarium and I had to try it. Here are the results.

My rosemary plant in the sunlight with some vintage lace to give it some air.

Scone Recipe for "Classic Cream Scones"

2 cups all purpose flour           1 large egg
1/4 cup granulated sugar          1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
2 teaspoons baking powder       1/2 cup currants (optional)
1/3 cup unsalted butter, chilled    1 egg mixed with 1 teaspoon water for glaze (optional)
1/8 teaspoon salt
1/2 heavy whipping cream

Directions
Step 1-Preheat your oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit first.
Step 2- In a large bowl, stir together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
Step 3- Cut the butter into 1/2 inch cubes and distribute them over the flour mixture.
Step 4- With a pastry blender or two knives used scissors fashion, cut in the butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
Step 5- In a large bowl, stir together the cream, egg, and vanilla.
Step 6- Add the cream mixture to the flour mixture and stir until combined.
step 7- Stir in the currants if you are using them.
step 8- With lightly floured hands, pat the dough into 1/2 inch thickness on a lightly floured cutting board or on the counter.
Step 9- Using a floured 2 1/2 inch diameter biscuit cutter or glass cut our rounds from the dough and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
Step 10- Gather the scraps together and repeat until all the dough has been used.
Step 11- Lightly brush the scones with the egg mixture, if desired.
Step 12- Bake for 13-15 minutes or until lightly browned.
Step 13- Remove the baking sheet to a wire rack and cool for 5 minutes. Using a spatula transfer scones to the wire rack to cool. Serve them warm or cool completely and store in an airtight container.

This recipe yields about 14 scones.

I had a craving for something sweet and English the other day and I made plain scones with blackberries on top. We have berries all year round because we freeze them so they are accessible all the time. Yum!

How to make a terrarium on pinterest via Atlanta.

My user name on pinterest is SingingDaily91 if you are on there and want to find me.
Enjoy the recipe and do try out making a terrarium if you have time or have the desire.
